CMJ in NYC: what to see – Lil J’s picks!

As many of you know, CMJ is a huge music and film festival happening all over New York and Brooklyn starting next week (the week of Oct. 18th). I am overwhelmed by the number of shows I want to see, and I’m sure many of you out there in the indie blogosphere are too. So, I thought I would give you my picks of what’s hot and which bands to check out.

tues, oct. 19: CMJ party at The Delancey featuring, among other excellent bands… blackbird blackbird (who DJ EPK is a huge fan of – you have probably seen their stuff on soph slump in the past!), deluka, and the rassle.

check out the rassle here:

weds, oct 20: Tough choice… still deciding where I am going to be. First, we have The Knocks and Holy Ghost at Bowery Ballroom. Second, we’ve got Millionyoung at Littlefield in Brooklyn. I saw Millionyoung this spring with DJ Storm/ 2Deep (who will hopefully be a contributor to this blog soon) and it was amazing. Definitely going big places, and you can dance your heart out to their sick beats.

Check it:

thurs, oct 21: Sharon Von Etten and Lower Dens (and more) at Bruar Falls in Williamsburg. Also, one of my all time faves Two Door Cinema Club at Webster Hall, with the wonderful Penguin Prison opening.

check out the beautiful music of sharon von etten here:

fri, oct 22: way too many good shows to choose. wish i could be in 4 places at once! i am going to recommend the show at Glasslands in Williamsburg featuring Cults, Kisses, Young Man and many others.

check out Cults, who i dig a lot:

sat, oct 23: during the day, my #1 band YOUNG EMPIRES are playing at arlene’s grocery. when it turns dark… i recommend heading to Santos Party House to see French Horn Rebellion, School of Seven Bells and a lot of others.

Check out this killer song by French Horn Rebellion, as well as the remix by the one and only Young Empires, which I cannot get enough of:

I hope to see you all out there at these shows! Big thanks DJ EPK and Ms. Mayo for letting me be a part of this blog!

Nice work J. The best part of this post is the featured image that includes a very serious set of ‘Atlantic City’ faces.
