Love Story

I recently watched this movie for the first time in many years…it is the mushiest gushiest movie I have ever genuinely enjoyed.  I am not usually one for the mush/gush to begin with, but this one hits the under-indulged spot with gratuitous cheesiness, snowy montages and lines that start with “love means…” Maybe it has something to do with a visual likeness to my own college campus, but Love Story has the power to make you feel nostalgic about moments that didn’t exactly happen to you but certainly look like they could have.

Since my fellow Slumpers generally write about important films, I will say that Love Story’s generic title hints at its place in cinematic history, as the movie is said to have set the template for the modern-day chick flick.  And the character of Jenny clearly inspired every whip-smart, modestly dressed heroine that came after, as well as a generation of killer eyebrows…so DJ EPK can slip it in between her marathon screenings of Palme d’Or winning films without feeling too silly about it.  Indulge!

“Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” Indulge indeed. Good post, May!
