Woods: Suffering Season

Brooklyn-based Woods (no connection to the eponymous Williamsburg watering hole) made it onto quite a few top lists in 2010 – PitchFork, RavenSingsTheBlues – with Echo Lake, an album that to fans more familiar with the group’s earlier works highlighted the sunnier side of their repertoire.  I’m all for that and I’m fortunate to have discovered it now while these darker, shorter winter days stifle our motivation and we hunker down for springtime. “Suffering Season” should make all the snow, cold, sleet, and darkness recede if only for 3 minutes which, incidentally, brings me to my only ciriticism of the track – it’s too freaking short.  Enjoy and be warm.
